Hungry for God

Psalm 42: 1-2

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

While meditating on the bible verse above, I felt a deep conviction in my heart that the body of Christ (Christians) myself inclusive, are not hungry for God, let alone pant after Him! Over the years, this verse has been repeated just as mere words of an old-time favorite during worship sessions in church, fellowships, or other Christian gatherings.

The word ‘pant’ connotes a ‘deep yearning’ that can only be satisfied by that object (or subject) in question. Other associated words could be ‘to pine, or long for something’. As I reflected on the true meaning of these words, I came to the shocking realization that our hunger for God (in this present age) is a far cry from the apostolic times! As a matter of fact, we are not hungry at all!

The Holy Spirit made it clear to me that the reason the abomination of desolations in the world has come to this heightened state is because Christians are not where we need to be spiritually! Our pursuit of fame, self agendas, etc., have beclouded our priorities for the things of God! And the accompanying result is a body of cold believers whose flames have flickered out; and hence churches without the fire or power of God! No wonder it is increasingly difficult to convince non-believers of their sinful ways!

Isaiah 44: 3 states that God will only pour out His Spirit on a thirsty ground (e.i. on hungry souls)! Our lack of yearning and hunger for God has withheld the outpouring of God’s Spirit on our dry and patchy lands! And the world has never needed God like we do today! The only lasting solution to the problems facing us today, is the presence/move of God! We need a re-awakening! We need a revival!

It’s time we asked God for an impartation of hunger – hunger for His word, His presence, and His visitation! When we can attract God’s intervention by our thirst and yearnings (for His presence), the current pandemic state, and all it’s associated impacts will be brushed aside (in a heartbeat) by the move of God!

Folks, let us cry out for hunger that supersedes our need for food, yearnings for fame, distractions, needs, wants, self-agendas, and self-desires. An ardent longing for His manifest presence and shekinah glory. A hunger that increases in intensity and culminates in a world-wide revival – sweeping through the nations of the world!

Folks this is what we truly need at this time!
