BLESSED ASSURANCE

Psalm 119: 89-96; 105

Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
You established the earth, and it abides.
91 They continue this day according to Your ordinances,
For all are Your servants.

This title brings to memory a favorite old hymn called ‘Blessed Assurance’ – and the lyrics go as thus:

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

This ancient hymn celebrates the fact that we have a divine relationship with the Trinity, having been purchased by the precious blood of Jesus; as such, it is our testimony and song, and we praise Him for it – this is pretty much the summary of these stanzas of the hymn.

However, this article portrays another perspective for a blessed assurance – that which comes from God’s Rhema ‘word’. A Rhema ‘word’ is the spoken word of God emphasized specifically to an individual, or situation, to address a particular issue.  Rhema contains God’s capacity to act, His authority, and wonder working power! It is a seed full of potentials; containing all it requires to grow – and if we keep watering it with our faith, it will germinate in due season.

Receiving a Rhema produces a blessed assurance that God is in control of whatever it is that might be plaguing you; it fuels a blessed assurance of God’s presence, and anchors a deep seated peace within your heart. Finding your Rhema affords a great settlement of hope that God will see you through! The Bible is full of precious promises, and you have to obtain the right (and specific) promise for each and every situation in your life.

Using the analogy of a key, there could be many keys in a keychain or with a key holder, but only a specific key will open a specific door. Your Rhema becomes the exact key that will crack open the opposing doors of your specific situation.

So in a nutshell, the nugget here is this – seek God’s Rhema ‘word’ in whatever situation you are faced with – ask God to give you a direct/specific word (could be a promise) to hold on to. Once received, start watering it with prayers and your faith, because that word becomes your blessed assurance of God’s imminent or anticipated intervention in that situation!
