Any Room In The Inn?

Luke 2: 1-7

Room for pleasure, room for business,
But for Christ the Crucified,
Not a place that He can enter,
In the heart for which He died?

Spurred by a thought-provoking message from one of our old time veterans, this article comes as a timely reminder to us at this yuletide season.

In the hustling and bustling of this festive season, humans are prone to forget the true meaning of Christmas. Our priorities are misplaced as we check our list twice, then dash to the malls and back. Since when has Christmas become all about us and our needs?

We tend to play out the lyrics of this old hymn above – we have room for our business, pleasure, friends, interests, careers, etc, but have no room in our hearts for HIM who took our place, bore our sins, and bears our burdens. HE lost everything, that we might gain everything!

Take a moment to ponder on the magnitude of the price HE paid:

When Jesus was born, deity became humanity – HE who is the most High God took on the status of a man.

When Jesus was born, divinity embraced nativity – Jesus relinquished His divine nature to taste the experience of birth by the virgin Mary.

When Jesus was born, eternity enveloped mortality – He who has no beginning or end became confined to the limitations and constraints of time as we know it.

When Jesus was born, sovereignty kissed humility – Christ, the epitome of supremacy took on the cloth of meekness.

When Jesus was born, authority accepted pliability – Jesus the custodian of power, surrendered control, so He can reconcile us to God

When Jesus was born, royalty invaded poverty – He left His glory, riches, kingship, etc, and became poor, that we might be rich!

When Jesus was born, dignity welcomed inferiority – Christ, the gem of heaven was born in a manger, with horses and cattle as roommates, because there was no room in the inn!

Christmas, a story that is many decades old; told in many languages, and celebrated all over the world, is still about Jesus and His birth. Today, HE is still seeking for room in the inns of our heart.

Would you let HIM in?
