1 Peter 3: 5-7
Most people are quite acquainted with the services of a wedding or event planner. If you have never hired one, you may have indirectly experienced their services – may be at a friend’s wedding, or a colleague’s event, etc. The wedding or event planner takes on most or all the responsibilities of the event (venue, menu, invitations, dresses, music, etc.) except the financial costs, which are paid by the event owner. The whole idea of a wedding or event planner is to take all the stress associated with planning weddings/events off you!
This thought of a wedding or event planner was triggered by my 9-year-old daughter while we were having our usual devotional time with God together. The devotional content addressed the fact that we should live a worry/stress-free life by casting all our cares, fears, anxieties, etc., on Jesus who is our burden-bearer! In a nutshell, we are to lay down our burdens, lay hold of His promises, and REST in Him! What a comforting thought!
While discussing and sharing insights on this devotional content (our usual practice), my 9-year-old summarized her thoughts with this concept of a wedding or event planner. She said we should view our lives (or situations) as someone who has a wedding/event planner (God in this case) to take on all the responsibilities of our lives such that we don’t have to worry about anything! All we have to do is tell God what we want, cast all the cares on Him, and then be at peace! Wow, this blew my mind! Such a compelling insight/analogy from a 9-year-old!
My 13-year-old also brought the thought that we should let go – most times, we are so hung up on the problems that we forget to see God in the midst of everything! She said the good news is that we have a loving Father who delights in helping us. So we should make our requests known to Him, and then have faith and trust Him!
This devotional time was a very refreshing time in God’s presence – He gave us lots of nuggets and insights. The fact that we have Jesus (as our wedding/event planner) is a comforting thought that should always influence our perspectives! He will carry all our cares/burdens, and the good thing is that you don’t even have to pay Him!
So learn to let go, and let God – He is a perfect wedding/event planner!
