Exodus 3: 1-10
2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
The account of Moses and the burning bush is an intriguing one. A bush on fire but not consumed defies all the law of nature! The Bible says Moses turned to see “this great sight” and rightly so because that should catch anybody’s attention. As soon as Moses’s curiosity was aroused and he turned to see this great mystery, God spoke. Note that God did not speak until HE had gotten Moses’s attention.
Sometimes we go through situations or experiences that can only be described as a “mess”. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong; nothing seems to be working. You take a stock of your life, and it does not make sense! I have something to say to you – God is seeking your attention! Just like the case of the burning bush, there is a message in every mess. You need to seek out that message.
God did not speak until Moses turned to look; in other words, until HE got Moses’s attention. Likewise, God will not speak until HE gets your attention. The reason why you have not been consumed in your “burning bush” is because God still has a plan for your life. There is a purpose for everything we go through, including the mess. There is a purpose God wants you to find.
There was a purpose for Moses even in his mess – he had killed an Egyptian and fled from Pharaoh’s wrath – he was on Pharaoh’s “wanted” list at the time. As a fugitive, Moses had left all the comfort of the palace, and was now tending his father in law’s sheep in faraway land called median. Moses taught he had settled for life; but God had a plan far greater that his mind could conceive; little did he know he was God’s chosen one to lead the Israelite’s out of Egyptian bondage!
God is seeking to get your attention. He has an agenda for your life. Begin to seek out the message in your mess; ask God to show you. I am sure God will reveal the purpose to you.
