Mark 16: 14-18
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
When I read the account of the Patriarchs of old (i.e. the disciples) in the book of Acts; how (in God’s name and through the Holy Spirit’s power) they preached the Gospel boldly, wrought many signs and wonders (including raising the dead) such that many souls were won for Christ, I can’t but wonder what has gone wrong with our Christianity of today.
Do not get me wrong; I am not saying that signs and wonders should be our main focus, but we must recognize that this is the promise that accompanies those who believe, to showcase God’s power as a testimony to HIS sovereignty, supremacy, and Lordship over mankind and other man-made gods!
The disciples (in the book of Acts) were committed, relentless, bold, passionate, disciplined, prayerful, and intimate with God. Since we have access to the same Holy Spirit, the same power, and recognize the fact that God does not change; then the problem must lie with us.
Are we devoted? How passionate and committed are we to the things of God? Are we dedicated to God’s cause? How bold and relentless are we? Is prayer and fasting part of our routine? Are we willing to step out of our comfort zone or suffer for HIS name sake? These thoughts bug my mind even as I write.
Where are the Peters of our day (the Pauls, the Johns, the Phillips, and the rest of them)? Folks, the end time is upon us. The great commission is till our mandate (“Go ye into all the world”). The message is still the same (“Jesus Saves”).
I pray your heart is stirred today, that you may be challenged to a deeper walk with Christ. God is seeking men and women who will go in HIS name, His power is still the same today. Can HE count on you?
