Ezekiel 22: 30
So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.
Throughout the ages, God has always displayed the extent of His (mercy over mankind) by seeking intercessors who will stand in the gap for the sins of men! There are always two choices available – mercy or judgment; but God in His infinite love will always choose mercy, so that mankind is not destroyed.
Such intercessors are found in biblical times as they went to God in brokenness and repentance, weeping for the sins of their nations, and a restoration of God’s presence. Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Daniel, Moses, etc. are just to mention a few. A character trait common with these men is selflessness! They were dead to self-agendas, self-ambitions, and self-desires!
A story is told of a group of Argentina students who became burdened with the declining spiritual state of their nation. The burden was so much that they abandoned everything to that cause! Sometimes they prayed for six hours nonstop, facing a wall, they wept uncontrollably until nothing else was left but a puddle of their own tears! It was not for a sin they committed, but for the sins of the nation!
These students continued in this state of agonizing prayer of deep repentance and brokenness continuously for 50 days. The resulting outcome of that intercession is that Argentina witnessed a great revival where men and women gave their lives to Christ in their numbers! The stadiums were too small to hold the meetings as over 180, 000 souls (and much more) were won for the kingdom!
The heightened state of moral decline in our nations today has reached a peak! If this does not bother you, then what will? We have committed atrocities, unbelievable abominations, and have broken the heart of God over and over again! Yet in His mercy, God is asking ‘who will stand in the gap for the sins of the nations’?
We can no longer continue to glory in the fact that we are saved and heaven-bound. This may be true, but what about our neighbors, our unsaved families, our colleagues, and others heading towards a lost eternity? But the love of God has been poured out, and God’s mercy is pleading – ‘I need a man to stand in the gap, I need a man to stand on behalf of the nations’ – Can God count on you? Can He depend on me?
God is desperately seeking for lost souls! Hear Him pleading below:
‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’ (Ezekiel 33: 11).
Would you carry the Father’s heart? Would you identify with His passion? Would you tarry on your knees until the wanderers are brought home? Would you weep for a lost generation? Would you weep for lost souls?
May God depend on you, and may He also depend on me!
