1 Corinthians 10: 4-5; Ephesians 6: 10-18; 1 Corinthians 15: 57
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand”.
The scriptures above tells us that we are engaged in a warfare! As if this is not scary enough, it goes further to say that this warfare is not the usual flesh-to-flesh battle common among men (like conflicts between neighbors, siblings, friends, clans, etc). No! It is a more serious affair because we are battling demonic spirits and spiritual forces in the heavenly realm! Which includes the arc enemy of our soul – the devil.
Did you catch the phrase ‘heavenly realm’? Meaning we are engaged in a warfare with beings that exist in the spiritual world, who cannot be seen by the naked eye or felt by our physical hands. The mere thought of it gives me the shivers!
How do you fight someone that cannot be seen or felt? Logically, this battle seems unfair. One is almost tempted to think we are disadvantaged, because our opponents can see us, but we cannot. But this is never the case, because the truth is that Christ died for us and have given us authority and victory over these spirits (Luke 1: 9; 1 Corinthians 15: 57). Thank God!!
It is encouraging to note that the Bible did not leave us unprotected against the fiery assaults of these wicked spirits. As a matter of fact, the Bible presents many weapons that protect different parts of our body. As outlined in Ephesians 6:14, we have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God), and prayer (in the Spirit).
Wow, how can we ever be scared with all of these weapons available to us – this is the whole armor of God! We have to put on this whole armour of God if we are to be victorious in this battle – refusal to do so is to be exposed. These weapons are mighty, and can bring great demolitions to the enemy’s kingdom.
Let us make it a habit to daily put on the whole armor of God. Only then would we be armed and dangerous; ready for battle!
