This article focuses on a profound insight with regards to handling any situation or problem we are facing or might face. When hit with the problems of life, a common practice is to feed it till it gets immensely complicated in our minds, or grows beyond the realm of our possibilities.
Speaking of the wrong practices we engage in, and that complicate our difficulties, let us examine three instances or examples:
Most times when dealing with an unpleasant situation, we spend a lot of our time meditating on the issue – that is, we roll the problem over and over in our mind recounting the details; this difficulty becomes the center of our attention and we focus deeply on inherent implications and possible effects.
Next, we begin to analyze the situation critically (albeit unintentionally), certain interpretations are inferred, and unfounded conclusions are drawn in our disfavor. The problem gets bigger than usual (in our perception); it soon blows out of hand, and the fear of many negative outcomes overwhelms our faith and confidence!
In response to fear, panic, and anxiety, we begin to communicate the issue with everyone around us, spreading hopelessness and negative words, which further complicates the issue. These three points above, magnify the problem, and shrink the solution.
Our attitude however, should be the reverse – that is, shrink the problem instead, and magnify the solution – by engaging in the same three practices (highlighted above) but with a different focus and perspective:
Meditate on God’s word instead – ponder on what the Bible says, and reflect on it over and over again. Starve the problem by feeding on God’s word. Secondly, deliberately analyze possible solutions (or outcomes) based on God’s word and capabilities (power). Thirdly, speak the language of faith – let your words confirm the testimony (or solution) you desire to see. Lastly, start thanking God in advance for bringing a divine solution to that issue!
Folks, there is a need to be intentional with how we handle our problems (big or small) – shrink the problem, and magnify the solution!
