BIBLE STUDY – METHOD 3

Psalm 42: 2; Hebrew 4: 12; Joshua 1: 8 ; Proverbs 3: 1-2

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”

“ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.

The Bible is a book to be studied with reverence. A systematic approach and regular plan of study is necessary for unlocking the truth in God’s word. It pays to be intentional with digging deep into God’s word. Just as we would hunt for treasures in a gold mine, God expects that we would hunt for hidden treasures in His word! This article presents yet another method for finding these ‘treasures’.

This method of Bible study is a very easy one, and mostly suitable for new believers; but can also be used by seasoned Christians for quiet times with God. This method of study involves reading either a Bible passage, a Bible verse, or a short Bible story, and meditating on it until the Holy Spirit gives you deep insights/lessons that can be applied to your personal life.

This method can be used at any time; and no reference tool is required. however, as usual, you’ll need a notebook and a pen for writing.

The following steps will guide you in this method of study:

  • Choose the item to be studied – either a Bible passage, a Bible verse, or a short Bible story
  • Prior to studying it, invite the Holy Spirit and ask for revelation/insight.
  • Meditate on the item you are studying until you receive a revelation or insight
  • Write out how you will apply this theme to your personal life – ensure your application is specific, realistic, and measurable.
  • Memorize a key verse from your study (if possible).

If you have ever studied for an exam in the secular or academic world, you note that studying is no easy task – it takes effort, practice (in some cases), and time. Same with studying the Bible, it could be hard work, but the rewards are gainful!
