GRACE SEES BEYOND OUR FAULTS

1 Corinthians 1: 27

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Have you observed that God specializes in using imperfect humans to accomplish perfect tasks? Throughout the Bible, you will note the weaknesses, flaws, or faults that seemingly plagued the lives of the chosen ones (e.g. Moses, David, Peter, James, John, Thomas, etc.).

it is obvious that God is making a statement about the people HE could use; God is looking at our ‘availability’, not necessarily our ‘ability’ – He supplies the grace when we are willing. God choses the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; He uses the weak things to shame the strong.

More specifically, Moses was hot tempered; he hastily killed the Egyptian, and became a fugitive. James and John were selfishly ambitious, seeking vain glories and titles rather than a servant heart. Thomas was a doubter – never mustering enough faith to believe. David adulterous tendencies led him to kill Uriah, and take over Uriah’s wife. Peter we know was impulsive, and hasty in making decisions.

The focus here is not to judge anyone, but to emphasize the point that human beings are imperfect, but God takes delight in using us anyway. It is humbling to consider the thought that God (a perfect Deity) will chose imperfect beings to achieve, and fulfill His purposes here on earth!

Grace does not see our weaknesses or faults’ but rather God’s perfecting work in our lives. When God looks at us, He sees a perfect person made whole by the blood of Jesus; He sees us in our perfected state – enabled by His power and strength! So grace sees what we could be, not what we are.

The interesting fact is that without Christ, human beings are empty vessels; in our natural state, we have nothing to offer. However, when God fills us with His virtue (when the need arises) to fulfill specific assignments –we become empowered and enable for His purpose/glory.

Whatever God has called you to do, do not focus on your weaknesses or inabilities – consider yourself capable, enabled, competent, and proficient; because God will supply the grace.
