Humans have a higher creational ranking than any other thing God ever created – We were made in God’s image, in HIS own likeness, to commune, fellowship and share life with God. So God’s primary purpose for making us in His image (and breathing into us the breath of life), is to share life with us. The​ ​Bible​ ​makes​ ​it​ ​clear​ ​that​ ​God​ ​wants​ ​​a ​relationship​ ​with​ ​man. ​ ​​Genesis​ ​3:​ ​8​ ​states​ ​that​ ​God came​ ​down​ ​in​ ​the​ ​cool​ ​of​ ​the​ ​day​ ​to​ ​visit​ ​with​ ​Adam​ ​&​ ​Eve.

And even after the fall, through the plan of redemption, God continues to reconcile the souls of men back to Himself; so that the broken relationship can be restored in perfect harmony – this is how important it is to God that we relate to Him!

God has invested so much in us – yet our relationship with Him is a far cry from what He expects of us. Plagued by the tyranny of our busy schedules, we fail or struggle to accommodate God in our daily routine. But even of a greater pain is the fact this depraved relationship we have with God is extremely one sided and selfish! Our prayer points are characterized by a long catalogue of things we want God to do and provide for us – never for once taking the time to seek what He wants us to do for Him.

Another painful thought is the fact that we tend to use God as a weapon! We seemingly ignore God in a corner of our hearts 9so to speak) until there is danger; then we pick Him up (just as you will pick up a weapon), and start to fire. With His word we quench the fiery darts of the enemy, and by His power we we pull down the kingdom of darkness. Using God as a battle axe (Jeremiah 51:20) we are victorious over the attacks of the enemy.

Yes, God is our battle axe, but He wants to be more than a weapon to us! He wants to be in close relationship with us; to fellowship, and share life with us. We should spend time with God just as you would with an intimate friend – involve Him in our decisions, remember Him in our daily activities, include Him in our plans, read his word, seek His will, and communicate frequently with Him.

Reflect on your relationship with God so far; take stock of how you have treated Him – has it been one sided? Have you only sought your ways and not His ways? Is your prayers full of requests only? Do you have the time for God when the goings are good? Or you only consult Him when you are in danger? Are you using God as a weapon only?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then consider mending your ways. God is more than a weapon, and He longs for a close relationship with you. If you will let Him, He will show you what a loving Father, Friend, and Confidant HE truly is!
