John 9:1-11
“1Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him saying” Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born bling? 3Jesus answered, neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him”.
My heart is stirred as I read the account of this blind man in the book of John (chapter 9). The disciples of Jesus asked “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind”? This question reveals the underlying assumption that someone was responsible for this man’s calamity. But the answer given by Jesus clarifies it is not necessarily so.
The difficulties and challenges we face is not always a result of our misdeeds or wrong actions. There is no direct relationship between how good we are (our character) and the things that befall us in life. The title “Good people” does not automatically equal “good things”, and vice versa. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. We are God’s handy work – He makes and shapes us as He wills; sometimes He decides to show case His glory through our circumstances or infirmities!
The sequence of events that followed led to the healing of this blind man. Jesus talked about the “work” of God being revealed. It is clear that the “work” of God that was revealed in this case was God’s power and ability to heal (specifically open a blind eyes). Even though this event caused a religious stir among the Pharisees/religious leaders of their time, there was no denying the fact that God had done something that had never been done prior to then – unprecedented; a miracle!
Have you found yourself in an unpleasant situation? You’ve searched your heart and found it’s not as a result of your sins or wrong actions. You’ve prayed, but the problem seems to persist. Please take it that God is up to something good – He wants to demonstrate His power through your situation (God could be demonstrating HIS power to heal, deliver, provide, preserve, protect, sustain, etc.). And you can be rest assured that just as in the case of the blind man, when God is done with you, He will take the glory, but the blessings will remain yours.
So do not despair whatever it is, because, it is for God’s glory!
