AN INSTRUMENT OF WORSHIP

psalm 96:9

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth”.

Have you ever played a musical instrument (e.g. piano, violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, etc.)? If you have never played any, you would most likely have experienced the rich harmonious sounds vibrating from any of these instruments one time or the other.

If you love music (like me), the blending of musical instruments during a worship session will send shivers down your spine; as your spirit is stirred in response to the sweet aroma of worship filling the air.

Worship is an act of adoration, praise, reverence, and glorification – all to God Almighty. God loves worship; and the Bible makes it clear that we were made to worship and glorify God (Isaiah 43:7; Psalms 100:2-3) – this is one of our primary reasons for existence. A common phrase when Christians gather to praise God is ‘worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness’.

However, a deeper sense of worship is born when we go beyond the little pockets of time devoted here and there to adore God. We adopt a sense of worship when our whole being develops a DNA of continuous adoration and praise; such that our lives and actions (and indeed, everything we do) yield forth unending anthems of honor, admiration, and glory to God!

God reserves the right, at any point in time, to ‘play the instrument of our being’ (so to speak), and it will spill out rich melodious sounds of worship and thanksgiving unto His name! Not sounds of murmur, complaint, anger, bitterness, etc.; but rather harmonious sounds of devotion, adoration, and adulation to God Almighty. Worship becomes the air we breathe, not only as an endless act of praise from our lips, but also as a form of living sacrifice depicted in our character, attitude, actions, words, habits, etc.– this is what it means to be an instrument of worship!

Is your life an instrument of worship? Does God’s praise flow ceaselessly from the core of your being? Are you a living sacrifice of worship to the Almighty God?

Father, make everything about us an instrument of worship unto your name. Amen.
